The Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMARAD) has announced a significant update to its endorsement application process, now allowing seafarers to submit applications directly. This new policy, implemented following numerous requests, aims to provide greater flexibility for maritime professionals seeking endorsements.
Previously, applications were tied to specific vessels or employers. Under the revised guidelines, seafarers can now apply for endorsements without being assigned to a particular vessel or employer at the time of submission. SLMARAD emphasizes that all direct applications must be made with the seafarer’s full knowledge and consent.
While direct applications are now accepted, SLMARAD confirms that its registration officers will continue to process applications, offering both options to applicants. The inclusion of vessel names remains an option for those who prefer it, ensuring a comprehensive and adaptable system for all seafarers. This move by SLMARAD is expected to simplify administrative procedures and enhance convenience for the maritime community.
